Perhaps he was frozen in a block of ice, just thawed out, and noticed

Or perhaps he's just dumb.

Subject: Jack Kirby
Jack Kirby, comic-book artist, died Sunday, Feb. 6th of heart failure
at his home in Thousand Oaks, California.  He was 76.
Kirby started working in comics in the '30's.  In 1940 he teamed up
with writer Joe Simon to create Captain America, and during the war "Boy
Commandoes", which sold a million copies per issue.  After the war they
produced popular-romance comics.
In 1958 Kirby went to work for Marvel Comics.  Working with Stan Lee,
he helped create the Incredible Hulk and Thor.  Working for DC Comics in
the early '70's he drew for "Mister Miracle", "New Gods", and "Jimmy Olsen".
Kirby was a giant in the comics industry who did much to shape it.
"Kirby is to comics what Louis Armstrong is to jazz." - Greg
Theakston, comics publisher.

(This info taken from the NY Times of Feb. 8th.  A real comics fan
could no doubt say more.)

His music is in our synapses even if we don't know who is. He
composed electronically forty years before MIDI. Raymond Scott,
who wrote the scores for the Looney Toons and Merrie Melodies
cartoons, is dead at the age of 85.

A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, he wanted to be an
engineer, but his family pressured him into music. He used his
love of gadgetry to take music where no one had taken it before.
He constructed a synthesizer long before the Moog, and produced
virtuoso recordings long before Wendy Carlos. We can hear his
work every evening on the Nickolodeon channel.

He was composing and hacking in MIDI until a stroke felled him
two years ago. His own time looked on him as trivial curiosity, a
frivolous ornament, an "unusuality," as one radio announcer
called his work. Respect eluded him while he lived, but will
surely find him in death, when the digital era finally recognizes
     its most lyrical pioneer.
